This morning as we stood in the back field, the wind was blowing and a light rain was coming down. I moved my hair out of my face and saw her standing on a small crest, staring at nothing. The wind about knocked her over, she was so light, had lost so much weight. There were long strands of drool trailing out of her mouth, as she had just vomited, even though she’d eaten nothing in the last 48 hours. Her back legs were half bent and she swayed with the wind, only just staying upright. Her body had betrayed her.
I did not want to betray her too. She was only still alive because I was fighting her death. She wasn’t. I let her go.
Good bye, my good girl. I will miss you more than you know.
