See Sport Run

PSYCH!!!
spo2

Of course Sport does not run. But he DID shuffle determinedly after Tweed a couple of times, just like the old days, whilst we were playing DumbBall.

Sporty can’t go for long walks, so we compromise – once a day he gets to come clatter around the horse paddock while the other dogs play ball. For the other walk of the day, I slip him a Percocet, he goes to sleep on the big pillow and I take the dogs out for a long run without him.

However, yesterday Sporty accompanied us all the way down to the barn and back. He seemed to really enjoy it – so much so that when I let everyone out for an afternoon pee, he took himself for a second walk down to the barn without me. Then he got lost, so I had to go retrieve him. Fortunately, he moves very slowly.

But he’s pretty handsome for an old guy, huh?

This morning at breakfast he said that he didn’t want his food, he wanted what everyone else was getting, so he got a bowl of tripe, which he ate!

For dinner, he ate a bag of sample kibble that the nice folks at Elemental Canine gave us to try out. He also ate two slices of processed “cheeze” and about 4 mouthfuls of his actual, 40-minutes-to-prepare meal.

I rather enjoy having Sporty around. I do wish he’d close his eyes when he sleeps though, because I keep thinking he’s dead.

But he’s not.

Anyway, mostly I stopped by to let you all know that as part of my Master Plan for 3WAAW I will be migrating the content off of Blogger and onto its own server. There will be some changes to the site, which I’m making based on some excellent advice from Judy at JTdataworks. The idea is that 3WAAW will earn its keep down the road!! There may be some interruption to the blog, though I do hope there won’t be … but despite the changes you will eventually see, it will still be 3WWAW – ie, irreverent and peppered with swear words :)

See you soon!

We're with you all the way on old dogs sleeping with their eyes open. We're forever checking to make sure that they're breathing!
What a handsome fellow Sport is.

    Oh, boy. Swear words!

Sport is an absolute beauty. He must be lying about his age. He sparkles from his eyes to his coat. Unless you're doing that thing with the tin foil again…

It's amazing how young Sport looks! He doesn't look 18 at all.

Good Boy Sport for getting up and moving around :)

Sport is amazing. You don't have to worry about him dying on your watch – there is so much life in those eyes.

Glad to hear 3WAAW will be earning you money down the line – it sure should! Glad, too, that things are looking up for you – you deserve it!

SPORT!!!! I think of Sport often having a Senior Citizen of my own (and I'm not talking about my husband!!). He just melted my heart when you first took him in and I'm so happy to see him looking so good.

Thanks so much for sharing and good to hear things are looking up for you too.

    Cheers to Sport!!

Good to know that Sport is still around. If you didn't know how old he was, you certainly wouldn't be able to tell from his picture. The thing I hate about old dogs is watching them not breathe while they're sleeping. I find myself holding my breath too and waiting for the inhale.

He is truly a handsome old guy!
Can't wait to see what you've got cooking on the new site :) I am 100% convinced that it can pay for itself and more.

Glad you are still fighting the good fight. We would sorely miss all of you if you gave up!

Forgive my fussing, but he's not really getting actual percocet, is he? It contains acetominophen (tylenol) which is very toxic to dogs. Or at least most dogs… not magic ones. Or perhaps all the other stuff he takes neutralizes the toxic stuff! People should not be tempted to give percocet to their dogs — this is definitely one for a vet.

Yes he is actually on percocet. It's a highly controlled narcotic in Canada, so of COURSE the vet prescribed it for him. They also prescribed it to Briggs before he died. It's for serious pain and lord knows, Sport needs it!

I have no problem with the active part, the oxycontin. It's the acetominophen that has me freaked out. It's percocet, not just pure oxycontin? Wild. Is his liver failing anyway?

    March 12, 2010 at 12:05 am

I know how much you love being right Nickelsmum, but lots of research indicates that acetominophen is tolerated by dogs very well at certain low dosages at certain intervals. Sport's been on percocet for almost two years, so it's not killing him, obviously. I don't think we need to second vet the guess who has kept this almost 19 year old dog alive and walking, do we?

  20. nickelsmum says

    March 12, 2010 at 11:39 pm

No, no, I am just weirded out! I truly thought even small amounts of acetominophen would cause them to drop dead frothing at the mouth and so on. I'm very glad Sporty is comfortable and "healthy."

    Hi FL
This is Dixie'sDad and you bet I remember Sport. I also remember all you did for him. He looks great and Lady (remember her) says she's in love. If the vet's estimate on Lady's age when we found her, she is 14 or 15 today on her 3rd gotcha anniversary. Love your blog.
