Dexter’s been wracking his brain trying to find a way to help raise some money for Piper’s knee surgery, but I WILL NOT STAND FOR HIM DOING PORN!!
Come on baby, you know I’m soooo good lookin’.
The WooTWoo said no.
Friends don’t let friends do porn.
Poor Piper. She looks happy in this photo, but that’s only because it’s the first time she’s been off leash since she tore her cruciate. And that was only so I could take this photo of her:
If you’re not on facebook, please check out the 2013 calendar I made to raise money for Piper’s surgery. I was thinking of doing a 3 Woofs one as well, if anyone is interested in buying one? I know it’s a bit late, but I could start it in February or something? If enough people are interested, I’ll buckle down and make another one!
The problem with cafepress calendars is that the profit margin is so very low. I’d have to sell, like, 400 of them to make the money we need. I know Piper’s got a lot of fans, but that’s ridiculous! The other day I was joking with one of my staff that I was going to borrow $10.00 from 200 people to make up the difference of what I have put away for her knee, and the blood money balance my vet wants for the surgery. Cuz nobody wants to lend you $2K but just about everyone is happy to lend you $10.00, and since it’s only $10.00 they aren’t too fussed on getting it repaid immediately ;-)
I *might* have a photo project coming up that would earn me some decent money. Aside from that, I told the dogs I would probably need to pick up a part time job to put some money aside.
There were 7 very pissed off dogs at the thought of me being away from them more often. Okay 6 pissed off dogs. Dexter’s not smart enough to know what I was saying.
But it is what it is. It won’t be forever, just until I get some money together for Miss P. Cuz I luff her. Doesn’t everyone?
I do! I do!
*sigh*
In other news, I got myself some new chickens (they were cheap!). They are about 6 months old and 4 of them are called Caramel Queens, which is a cross between a Light Sussex and a Welsummer. As I have had zero luck with my purebred Welsummers, I am hoping the cross will be heartier, and these gals seem pretty healthy.
The other 4 are a cross between a Light Sussex and a black Australorp, the latter being renowned for their incredible egg laying. The result is a very pretty slate grey chicken with a white laced neck and the man I bought them from said this is his second year doing this cross and last year’s hens laid like a hot damn.
My other hens have given my jacksquat for eggs since about mid November, when they all went on strike and stopped laying. In fact, I found a green egg in the henhouse yesterday that was the first egg I’d seen in almost two months! These new girls are just starting to lay, so pretty soon we should be back in the egg business.
If I were smarter, I would off some of my older chickens, but I somehow can’t bring myself to do it. I am a certifiable sap. I am so sappy, in fact, that every evening I go out after dark and spend 20 minutes chasing the new pullets around the chicken yard to shove them in the hen house (for some reason new chickens never seem to understand where their sleeping quarters are for a good week or so). I figure it’s my cardio for the day.
But I made a new friend. Wally, the old man who sold me these chickens, is a super cool old dude. His grandkids don’t know how awesome their granddad is! He offered to incubate some eggs for me this Spring, so I can make some more Black Copper Marans. “No charge or anything,” he said “I just like makin’ chickens.”

It’s back to work for me tomorrow, so time to share your last laugh of the evening until next time:
I’ve been teaching TWooie a new trick … I ask him “Who’s your buddy?” and he puts his ‘arm’ around Wootie. But sometimes it takes him a few tries, and poor Wootie gets beaten up. The photo is blurry because I was laughing so hard.
This is what it’s supposed to look like. Still blurry, because I was still laughing.

The “Who’s your buddy” bit is hilarious! How did you train that one?
Hey: at least Dexter’s only doing *soft* porn…
Alice says
Poor Miz Piper! For the record, I would completely buy a 3 Woofs calendar, even in February. And the “Who’s your buddy?” bit made me enact the perfect spit-take.
Bettyna says
Love the “who’s your buddy” trick!! :)
Minabey says
I think TWooie is hitting Wootie on purpose and tries to look innocent. hahaha. He’s such a cutie. Happy new year, FL! Hope you have a better year with your “zoo”!

“who’s your buddy?” is amazing! my (ostensibly foster) dog carlos has started to roach constantly on his walks. first he rubs up on whatever surface he can find – walls, bushes, tree trunks, fences, netting, WHATEVER. he’s done that since we got him, but now it’s almost always followed by a proper puppy-porn-worthy roaching. once a king charles spaniel puppy came up to investigate and scared the bejeezus out of carlos mid-roach. i need to put video up of it, it’s both adorable and crazy-looking, the precise combo that amuses me most. and almost as adorable & crazy-looking as the woo-twoos of the corn.
Deb says
I’d ‘lend’ you 10 dollars. Paypal?
Katharine Swan says
I luff you and I luff your dogs, so I bought a Mad Teeth T-shirt. I don’t know how it compares to what you get for a calendar, but I hope others (like 399 others) will buy things, too. I also looked for your PayPal donation button and couldn’t find it — perhaps now is a good time to reinstate it?
Gillian says
I love how your idea of a “blurry” picture is just my camera’s idea of a picture
Adrienne says
The Piper calendar is amazing! What’s even more amazing is that you not only have enough beautiful shot of your dog for a calendar, you probably had to *choose*! lol
I will buy some 3WAAW stuff as soon as I get some cash in my bank. I would happily lend you $10. But I have to get it first! (January is our lean month around here!) Wish the “Woo are Not the Boss of Me” stuff was back. And I have been wanting a Mad Teeth shirt for like, forever. Hey, if it’s to help pay Piper’s bill, then it’s not just for me, right??
Laughing SO HARD at the last two shots! Where on earth did you get the idea for that trick, I don’t think I would *ever* have thought of it. And I can just see TWooie not blinking, rapt with attention on the cookie, groping away and bashing poor Wootie, hilariolus!
Adrienne says
P.S. I remember back when you despaired of teaching TWooie ANYTHING. The boy has come a long ways. :-)
Kristi says
Dex looks like Burt Reynolds in that second pic!
Shasta says
I second the request to put your Paypal button back on the site. I am happy to give to the Piper knee fund, cuz that giggle at the end of this post was worth a few shekels to keep ’em coming and help your baby girl.
Lise says
Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Those last two photos made me laugh so hard I hurt.
Gen says
I’ll give 10$ for Piper, no lending involved. Simply consider it a downpayent on any and all future photos of our favorite bitch :)
Ailsa says
You *taught* Twooie?! And, more than that, something so utterly awesome?!! So very proud. And so very funny. I’m laughing just thinking about it …
Plus I bought a calendar. FYI, although I like inspirational quotes, I would *love* irreverent quotes from you on another calendar. I’m sure I have enough walls for two….
Cassie says
LOL, that trick is way too cute! Especially when Twooie misses, I was laughing so hard at that pic and the looks on their faces. ;)
floral says
Where is the paypal button? I would gladly put up some cash for ready your blog.
floral says
um, “reading” your blog.
mrsb says
Yes, you need a Donate button!
Dinah Toro says
I want a book– do you have some?
Anna says
I’m sorry about Piper’s surgery funding(or lack thereof). I hope you get what you need for it. I’ve been “watching” your blog for months(probably a year? +? not sure) and just wanted to comment finally. Dexter is my absolute favorite but all your dogs really brighten my day.
peggy says
I’m happy to donate $10. You do need some sort of a jar…
Tammy says
On her 12/21 post, TFL explains that she can’t put a button up. but includes her paypal info: “WebJoe is somewhere sunny and warm, probably face-down in a puddle of fruity throw-up, so he cannot do that magic thing where he adds the tip jar back to Wootube right now. But for those kajillion of you who sent messages asking where it is, you can find me on paypal at the email address mrsnappyone@yahoo.com. Piper’s knee thanks you!”
Leandra says
How about setting up a page at http://www.chipin.com so that people can make donations?
cinnamondog says
You only need to sell 395 calendars, I ordered 4 more after my first one arrived. It’s really nice, and my sister wanted it, so I ordered more to give to friends and to the people at my business bank who helped me a lot last year.
If you put a ChipIn or PayPal button on either your site or your FB page, I’m sure you could raise the money you need. A lot of your time and effort goes into your website and the content you provide, so giving people the option of sending $5 or so to help out Ms Piper is not out of line at all. Go for it!
Clairesmum says
Dexter seems to be taking over Tweed’srole as “the pervy one” in the pack! I gotta say, he does look like quite a “hot” dog!
The fact that Twooie learned a trick for you seems amazing. Combined with his rescue of the rabbit,
It seems like he now knows he belongs in your pack! Woo already knows this, but does not seem to find it comforting.
Will figure out how to transfer funds via Paypal from the states, and send something along – think of it as a small repayment for all the smiles you have given me over the last couple of years.
