It’s truly amazing, but Summer has finally arrived in Vancouver. It’s smokin’ hot outside!
Tweed is shocked, and can’t believe it.
Also, he thinks it might be a tad *too* hot outside. After all, he has not yet managed to negotiate storage terms with his winter coat, so he’s still wearing it.
It seemed like a good idea to take the gang to East Beach in the early morning and enjoy some ocean splashing before the temperature climbed.
But when we arrived at our usual parking spot, we discovered some kind of festival was going on and we were unable to access the beach.
Tweed was shocked and couldn’t believe that either.
But fortunately, one of my clients last week told me about a a stretch of beach about 10 minutes away that was much less crowded than East Beach, and after a little bit of aimless driving we found it, and it was indeed completely empty, ‘cept for this guy.
He was pretty amiable and played with us for a bit. Or rather, he stole the Wootie Toy™ and amused himself for a half hour or so.
TWooie tried to run him off, because he’s super tough and stuff.
But Frasier the Boxer did not take the TWoo seriously and didn’t leave until I tucked the frisbee down my pants and pretended it was gone. He spent some considerable time looking for it just about everywhere:
But eventually gave up and wandered off, leaving the whole beach for us!
Still, apparently, this beach ain’t big enough for the two of ’em.
Maggie was surrendered to rescue for fighting with the older pug in her household, who was there first. Her previous owner said she was a bossy, dominant female with other dogs and could be quite nasty. I’ve not see any indication of this with my dogs – she is submissive, respects their authority and backs down to most challenges so the problem was probably just with that particular dog in her old home.
However, today she thought she might challenge Piper’s Queen Beach status, and the war wuz on!
Neither was willing to back down.
It was starting to get tense …
But in the end, they decided that they’d be more effective if they joined forces.
Which was great news for everyone except Wootie.
I’ll never get the frisbee now. *sigh*
You’ll just have to try harder, Woo!
After all, while Mags can get a little air…
… she can’t hold a candle to the miracle bounce that is The Woo!
I’m gonna try this “air” thing.
On second thought … I think I’ll just lay here in the water summore … oh yeah, that’s better.
So as you have probably guessed, I have gotten my car back. I’m still not entirely sure what was wrong with it in the first place, but it must have been in the top of the engine because it cost less than a thousand dollars to repair. My new mechanic is German, so all I heard was “German german more german ze bolt in ze strut wuz stripped, it sounded a lot vurse than it wuz german german more german your oil, it needz to change and also your brakes need some vurk too german german” and then the price. Thank doG. Cuz Maggins started peeing blood the same day I got my car back, and I had to take her to the vet for some antibiotics. She’s feeling a lot better now, and continues to be an absolute delight.
Plus she’s cute as a tiny little button!
I’ll be sad to see her go … she fits right in!
Unlike one of these (GIANT) things that is doing its own (GIANT) things and stands out in a crowd (*coughGIANTDEXTERcough*)

Wow, how much Dexter has grown. I remember “favoriting” a pic of Dex from your Flickr account when he was still small. And that was just, what, several weeks ago? :)
Cora says
Well those are some damn fine pictures… of the boxer, lol! I love them! Balancing the toy and then his face buried in the water, only a boxer.
TWooie is very lucky the boxer boy was mellow, he would not be a match from a pissed off boxer, you’d have a new definition of Mad Teeth.
Actually all the pictures are great as usual. Wish you were on my side of the big water so I could get some great pics of my dogs, I am such a lousy photographer.
Arwen Lune says
Haha, that photo of Woo going after the wootie toy needs a space shuttle launch soundtrack.
Claudia says
OMD!!!! Dexter *IS* giant!!! That’s such a lovely group shot. So *wish* Ms Button can stay, she looks so happy like she is SO fitting in SO completely but I’m not saying. La la la la la….
Carol says
I’m thinking that any more dogs and you’ll have to take family photos with a wide angle lens…
Amanda says
Your dogs all look paired up… The WooTWoos on one end, the MaggieMadTeeths on the other. And the ones in the middle, well, it looks like Tweed is trying to completely disassociate himself from Dexter.
Andre says
Since you are having 1 dog leave may I recommend a replacement?

Apparently Calvin the border collie hasnt found a home yet and its been a while.
As for the pic of them all lined up – nice shot – like the sepia finish.

What a lovely day at the beach! I can’t imagine what inside of your car must smell like when you load up to go home!! Mags looks so happy. It’s wonderful that she can enjoy this time with you before she goes to her forever home. Love the Bitches of East Beach! Laugh out loud funny! The group picture was great too. What a great bunch of dogs having a great day at the beach!
katie says
Aw! Dex looks like he could double for Batman in that last photo! Great ears…..heeheehee. And man, would I lurv to make Maggie my own, as she seems to match my pup in temperament. Oh, I can only imagine the fun they’d have together! But alas, the middle of the East Coast USA is awfully far away from you guys.
Benny says
Have I told you lately just how much I enjoy your blog?
and the photos!
and the dogs, yea I’m a tad partial to the dogs.
Thanks for doing this as well as you do.
suzanne says
she seriously needs to stay with you!
DaisyDoodle says
Dexter is huge!
What’s one more dog??? Just sayin’…….
Suzanne says
Ha! Exactly what I was gonna write!
(twilight zone music begins now….)
Noirewolf says
That is the greatest group shot ever!!! Maggie HAS to stay with you!
Karen says
Thanks for my morning laugh! And I wish I was ‘needing’ another dog right now, that Maggie is a cutie……
Ruth says
Wow! Dexter is MASSIVE!!
Laura L. says
I love your blog! The pictures are always fantastic and your captions are hilarious. I really like the picture of Piper and Meg staring each other down with the splash of water-great capture. And the miracle bounce of Woo is another great one. It would be funny even without a caption.

Ha ha, giant Dexter. Hilarious!!
Btw, you are so keeping Maggie…!! That’s what I think, anyway…! ;)
kristy says
A photo of 5 would seem unbalanced after the photo of 6!
Who would pair up with Tweed if you went back to 5?
Mary says
This is sort of off topic, but that boxer did have a person with him, right? I mean, he didn’t literally just wander away? I don’t know why that worries me so much, but it does.
pam says
Is Dexter schmerkin? he definitely looks like he’s schmerkin.
napolean says
You know, it occurs to me that in that photo the way Dex’s ears are positioned they look just like devils horns–coincidence? I think not ;-)
jackie says
Checked out the link for Calvin. So cute. Did you see the last pic of him in his profile section? Almost looks like a Berner.
Have to second Benny. You, your photos and your blog are just awesome.
Suzanne says
Silly me, I assumed my post would automatically follow the last post I read. Well since it didn’t mine made little sense.
I was going to write “she so needs to stay with you”, but another suzanne had already done that, and having the same name and all, well the twilight zone theme song played in my head.
Anyhoo, the miss maggins – she so looks like she belongs. I’m just sayin’…
Monica says
The 2nd pic of Tweed is so funny, he looks like a seal! :D
And I agree with the others, you should keep Maggie! She fits right in there! We’re just sayin’……. ;)
riosmom says
Love the picture of Dexter and Maggie racing together – every boy should have a little sister. As always, Woo is amazing. And Twoo is now safe to take to the beach? You have done wonders with him and he looks so much better now that he has a waistline. He used to remind me of my old guy who gained weight in his later years and caused my vet to say “He has a waistline – it’s just in the wrong direction!”
Loved the sepia group picture.
SweetCeana says
Poor Tweeeeeeeeed and his heavy coat. Maybe there is something in the air because my rough coated two never blew their winter coats either. It sure isn’t the weather because it was 112 degrees in Phoenix yesterday.
Maggie will go fast, the small females always seem to. The only thing that is faster in our rescue are puppies.
Paula says
I just love everything about this post!
kristy says
Is it global warming or what that none of the heavy shedders have done any heavy shedding this year?! Still just light shedding from our husky mix who usually blows his coat for about a month big time!
Adrienne says
Our dogs down here in Minnesota finally blew their winter coats about a week ago. Emma actually started back in April. Then it got cold and just finally warmed up. Understatement, it’s friggin tropical this past week. 80% humidity and 90 degrees is *not* fun.
Well I dunno if you want Maggie to be permanent, but she really does fit in. And I love reading about her. (Shh, don’t tell Piper!)
Abigail says
My dogs are also late blowing their coats this year, they’re in the middle of it now.
Mags is a cutie and I’m still amazed at how HUGE Dex is. Will be a good thing when he starts agility, I’m sure!
Gina says
Thanks so much for the pictures, they are all great. And yes they made me cry. I agree with everyone that Maggie fits in perfectly. She looks unbelievable happy.
Robin says
Coats are blowing now in Montana.
This blog entry is so full of WIN I can’t even describe it.
The Food Lady says
“What a lovely day at the beach! I can’t imagine what inside of your car must smell like when you load up to go home!!”
Hmmm – doesn’t smell too bad actually, but then again all the dogs are crated in the car so …
“This is sort of off topic, but that boxer did have a person with him, right? I mean, he didn’t literally just wander away?”
Come now … you don’t think the Food Lady would let an owner-less Boxer wander around the beach and not do something about it, like take it home, do you? I’d never. Of course he had an owner! Never fear.
“Is it global warming or what that none of the heavy shedders have done any heavy shedding this year?!”
I dunno, but TWooie shed clumps and clumps like a mofo. He looks like a completely different dog now! Tweed doesn’t want to give up his coat yet though … I brushed everyone the other day, took out half his coat and he looks exactly the same!!!
I am ignoring ALL of you who keep telling me to keep Maggie. So there.
Maggie says
Keep Maggie!
Bev Johnson says
Hey Foolady its already been decided and voted upon Mags is yours forever!! LOL Where is the quiet beach.. Love the shots and your blog of course
